The Path of Mastery

On skill trees, class specialization, and the cultivation of power

Foundation

Skill Trees Overview

The skill system in Thrones allows thee to shape thy character according to thy preferred playstyle. Skills are organized into three primary trees:Combat, Crafting, and Utility. Each tree contains multiple branches offering different specializations.

Skill points are earned through gameplay and may be invested into any skill for which thou hast met the prerequisites. Most skills have five levels, with each level providing incremental bonuses. Certain milestone levels unlock special abilities or passive effects.

Whilst thou art free to spread thy points across all trees, specialization is often more effective. A focused warrior will outperform a jack-of-all-trades in combat, just as a dedicated crafter produces superior goods.

Warfare

Combat Skills

Combat skills enhance thy effectiveness in battle. From raw damage output to defensive capabilities, these skills determine whether thou art predator or prey.

Iron Skin5+3 defenseL5: 10% damage reduction
Battle Focus5+2% critical chanceL3: Combat regen +50%
Discipline5+1 max discipline bonusL5: Tactical bonuses persist longer

Discipline is particularly valuable for sustained combat. Each point allows thee to maintain more tactical bonuses simultaneously, stacking effects that would otherwise be lost.

Creation

Crafting Skills

Crafting skills improve the quality and efficiency of thy creations. Whether forging weapons, brewing potions, or constructing buildings, these skills determine the excellence of thy work.

Master crafters are highly valued in any kingdom. Their ability to produce superior equipment and buildings provides a significant advantage in both combat and territorial control.

Support

Utility Skills

Utility skills provide benefits that enhance thy overall effectiveness without directly affecting combat or crafting. These skills often provide quality-of-life improvements and economic advantages.

Merchant5-5% trade taxesL3: 50% Rift Mote discount; L5: Build Trade Tents cheaper
Harvester5+10% resource yieldL5: Chance for rare materials
Scout5+10% detection rangeL5: See enemy player stats

Utility skills are often underestimated by new players. However, the economic benefits of Merchant and Harvester compound over time, making dedicated utility builds surprisingly powerful in the long run.

Specialization

Player Classes

Beyond individual skills, players may specialize into Classes. Classes are unlocked by investing heavily in specific skill combinations and provide powerful passive bonuses and unique abilities.

ClassRequirementsSignature Ability
KnightWeapon Mastery 3, Iron Skin 3Shield Wall: Block all damage for 3s
RangerPathfinder 3, Scout 3Mark Prey: +50% damage to target
ArtisanSmithing 3, Construction 3Masterwork: Guaranteed superior quality
MerchantMerchant 3, Harvester 3Gold for Discipline: Buy combat bonuses

Class abilities operate on lengthy cooldowns but can turn the tide of battle or provide significant economic advantages. Choose thy class wisely, for changing it requires a costly respec.

Progression

Leveling & Skill Points

Skill points are earned through gaining experience levels. Each level grants one skill point to invest. Additionally, certain achievements and quests reward bonus skill points.

The cost to upgrade a skill increases with each level. Level 1 costs 1 point, Level 2 costs 2 points, and so forth. A fully maxed skill (Level 5) requires a total of 15 skill points (1+2+3+4+5).

Respeccing thy skills is possible but costly. The first respec each month is free; subsequent respecs cost increasing amounts of gold. Plan thy build carefully to avoid frequent changes.
