Claiming Land
Territory in Thrones is claimed through the placement of Lanterns. These mystical beacons project thy influence over the surrounding land, marking it as thy domain. Within thy claimed territory, thou enjoyest protection, resource bonuses, and the ability to construct buildings.
To place a lantern, thou must be physically present at the location (thy GPS coordinates must fall within range). Once placed, the lantern illuminates a circular area around it. Multiple lanterns may be placed to extend thy domain, though their areas of influence do not stack—only the boundaries expand.
Territory claimed by thy kingdom allies appears in a friendly hue upon the map, whilst enemy territory glows with hostile colors. Contested borders often become flashpoints for territorial warfare.
Lantern Types
Two varieties of lanterns exist, each serving different strategic purposes. Choose wisely based upon thy needs and the threats thou facest.
| Type | HP | Burn Duration | Special Properties |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Lantern | 100 | 30 seconds | Basic territory claim, no cooldown between attacks |
| Hardened Lantern | 500 | 24 hours | 22-hour attack cooldown per attacker, enhanced durability |
Standard lanterns serve well for rapid expansion and temporary claims. Hardened lanterns, whilst more costly to create, provide significantly greater protection against enemy incursions. The 22-hour attack cooldown means a single attacker cannot quickly destroy a hardened lantern without allies.
When a lantern's health falls below 50%, it becomes vulnerable to burning. An attacker may spend 20 refined oil to ignite the lantern, beginning a countdown to its destruction. The owner may repair the lantern during this burn phase to save it.
Towers & Obelisks
Beyond lanterns, more permanent structures may be erected upon thy territory to enhance its value and defensibility. These buildings require significant resources and crafting skill to construct.
| Structure | Function | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Watchtower | Reveals nearby enemy movements | Wood ×50, Stone ×30, Iron ×10 |
| Obelisk | Extends territory radius by 25% | Stone ×100, Brick ×50, Gold ×500 |
| Fortress | Defensive bonus to all friendly units | Stone ×200, Iron ×100, Brick ×100 |
| Trade Post | Enables local trading, reduced taxes | Wood ×100, Silk ×50, Gold ×1000 |
Structures may be upgraded to enhance their effects. A fully upgraded Obelisk extends territory by 50%, whilst an enhanced Fortress provides substantial defensive bonuses to nearby allied players.
Brick Economy
Bricks serve as a secondary currency tied to territorial control and kingdom development. They are earned through various activities and spent on kingdom upgrades, structures, and special purchases.
| Activity | Bricks Earned | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Holding Territory | 1 per hour per tile | Passive income from claims |
| Defeating Enemies | 5-50 per kill | Varies by enemy tier |
| Completing Quests | 20-200 per quest | One-time rewards |
| Kingdom Donations | Variable | Convert gold to kingdom bricks |
Bricks cannot be traded between players directly but may be donated to thy kingdom treasury. Kingdom leaders may then allocate these bricks toward collective upgrades and war efforts.
Territory Defense
Defending thy territory requires vigilance and preparation. Enemy players may attack thy lanterns and structures whilst thou art away. Without protection, even a mighty empire may crumble overnight.
Hardened lanterns are thy first line of defense. Their extended burn time (24 hours) gives thee ample opportunity to respond to attacks. Combined with the 22-hour attack cooldown, a determined defender can usually repair faster than attackers can damage.
Kingdom allies automatically receive notifications when thy territory is under attack. A coordinated defense, with multiple players repairing and counter-attacking, is far more effective than solo defense. This is why kingdom membership is so valuable for territorial control.
Should a lantern be destroyed, any buildings constructed within its radius become vulnerable. Attackers may then demolish or, in some cases, claim these structures for themselves. Protect thy core lanterns at all costs.
